Messi apologises for letting kids down

Barcelona star Lionel Messi took to social media to apologise for missing the open-doors training session the squad served up for the public on Monday morning, which the club had earlier explained was owing to a bout of gastroenteritis.
"I would have liked to have taken part in the Christmas training session. I've never missed it before, but you can't control these types of setbacks. I hope every kid's wishes come true", Messi wrote.
Over 11,000 'Culés' supporters, including a large number of children, were left disappointed by Messi's no-show for the festive session at the Miniestadi. It is worth noting that the Argentine only returned from holiday on 2nd January and started Sunday's loss at the Anoeta on the bench, having only trained twice ahead of the game.
Messi was also absent from the party of 'Azulgranas' players that visited several hospitals around Barcelona after the session, as has become traditional at this time of the year.
