2014 has been a great year for Real Madrid, with the club winning four titles in football (Copa del Rey, Champions League, Supercup and the Club World Cup): never before has the club won so much silverware in a calendar year. In basketball, the club won the Cup and Supercup and were finalists in the League and Euroliga. There is an aura of optimism about the club and with good reason “We wish a Merry Christmas to all Madrid fans and everybody. We’ll be back with the same enthusiasm in 2015”. This was the message in the traditional Christmas photo with Florentino Pérez, both coaches (Ancelotti y Laso) and the football and basketball captains respectively (Casillas, Ramos, Reyes and Llull), maintaining a tradition that dates back to 2009.
This year’s photos were taken before the team embarked for Morocco to on December 17th, the same day the club celebrated their Christmas lunch together.
The only shadow on the happiness of 2014 was the passing away of Alfredo de Di Stéfano on July 7th. Florentino was keen to remark on this on the club website: “2014 has been a special year for Madrid fans with two events standing out: winning the 10th and the sad passing away of Di Stéfano. Time moves on and now the focus is on winning our eleventh European trophy, and we’re working towards that...”.
